Me shiny leven petrol cap lost its rubber somewhere between home and Ettington. Soooo ordered a sheet of rubber but it feels a bit soft, how is ordinary rubber with petrol? I fancy this may dissolve if dipped in it but up the top of the neck feeding a tank?

Also, any other suggestions for a seal? (get the arf arf arf in before someone mentions a seal with flippers)

Why not snip a bit off and put in in a jam jar with an inch of petrol in the bottom for a few days?

Be careful with rubber, there's dozens of different types and even then, each type can be formulated differently to give different properties.

Make sure the stuff you've bought has the right properties, but generally bear in mind that you get what you pay for...

Cheers John, get back to you later if it is no problem?

Martin, interesting link. Thanks, thought it was a deeper issue than just buying some rubber.

Had a reply from Leven and it seems they can sort me. So, thanks for the offer. I might get some in for a rainy day just in case but tack the new one in with a dab of glue. The stuff I had bought also gripped the lip too tight and twisted up.

Now then, 1.5mm rubber, bit of glue and they will never split.
