As above the 450 has what I assume is its original, black, non locking petrol filler cap. I am looking for a locking chrome one. Does anyone have an idea of what fits?

Cheers Jimbo

They stopped making them 10 years ago!

It would still be interesting to find out what cars have the same diameter for nicking caps off.

These days thieves don't bother siphoning, they just reach underneath and cut through the hoses.

Not only to stop theft but also prevents people adding to to the tanks contents when taken short on their way back from the pub! Happened to one of my cars a few years ago, had to drain the tank and the carbs before it would run again.

Shame whoever "filled the tank" had not been drinking rusty nails, it would have gone quite well !!

The hunt for these has been long and arduous with no result, in the end I fitted a compartment lock to the flap, carried this out on both wedges, the locking lever slides behind the fuel flaps metal stop.

If you had told me at Wedge Fest Jimbo I would have swapped you for my locking one

My car is always garaged and I hate getting to the petrol station and having to muck about with a key
(you can't keep it unlocked - ie you can't take the key out when it isn't locked)

Remind me next year at BBWF 2012 and I will probably swap you

Cheers

I see your plan - keep the spare key and siphon the odd few gallons out - they don't call you Trickie Dickie for nothing! ;^)

Ive been trying to find one for ages that fits..Ive managed to find a seal for the existing cap that i have but not sure until it gets here if it fits..If not then i think the only way is to buy something with a 51mm OD neck and filler cap..A slight modification might be in order..Something like this maybe..

Ha Ha!!!!

Unfortunately I think I only have 1 key
and besides Norfolk from Yorkshire is more fuel than I could syphon anyway
(although it could be fun at BBWF 2012!!!)

I'm taking BOTH locking ones off my 280i in due course.

One is a bit stiff when shut (but key turns fine when unlocked, might need an adjustment?) other is fine.

They could do with a re-chrome but look ok, and I also garage my car so don't need to faf about with the keys at the petrol station.

If anyone wants pics etc let me know.....not sure if they fit later cars or not but always worth a try?
