Be careful. I was there recently, paid 40 euro for a sim from SFR (same network as vodafone) giving 20 days unlimited Internet. The bloke put the sim in my iPhone but said it needed unlocking before he could activate it. Rang Vodafone who said it would take 5 to 7 days to unlock, we were only there for 8 days so it was money wasted.

UK Vodafone contracts above £40pm give you 25MB per day - below £40pm you can pay £10 for 30 days at 25MB per day.

Screw the French and their weird, expensive contracts...

France has one of the best free wi-fi networks in europe. You should be able to pick up a hot spot most places

There's an app to download for iphone/ipad, but otherwise, oi, gratis (as the locals might say).

Thought I'd resurrect this thread rather than starting a new one - I'm after similar advice but slightly different scenario.

I have an unlocked 3 MiFi and will be in France soon for just over a week. I'd like to be able to buy a French pre-paid SIM for cheap 3G access. Any suggestions? I've seen good top-up prices, eg Bouyges at Euro 15 for 7 days but only bundled with a dongle (which I already have).

I'm only on PAYG for UK mobile so topping that up and roaming isn't an option I want to consider (unless Orange have some excellent deal I'm unaware about).
