A look back at Ian Botham's cricketing career, marking 30 years since the Ashes series that saw the former all-rounder at the peak of his powers.
Botham started the series against Australia in 1981 as England captain, but resigned following a string of poor performances and media criticism, and what followed at Headingley, Edgbaston and Old Trafford led to the series becoming remembered as Botham's Ashes.
This programme charts the player's highs and lows on and off the pitch, as well as focusing on his epic fundraising achievements and subsequent broadcasting career.
With contributions from David Gower, Viv Richards, Mick Jagger and Stephen Fry.
I have been looking forward to this, should be good.....9:00pm - 10:00pm

Always been a beefy fan, although i always wished commentators would stop harking on about '81, bit like '66 i suppose!
They never mentioned that Botham took a wicket with his first ball on his return in 1986, i can remember delaying going back to work until he came on just after lunch!

Dear All,
don't underestimate Bob Willis' contribution. He certainly was in the zone!

Mike Brearley tells the story of the 1981 Test series against Australia. With England one-nil down in the six-match series to the tourists, he took over the captaincy from Ian Botham ahead of the Third Test at Headingley, a move which led to the hosts reclaiming the Ashes with a 3-1 series win and united a nation.

Graham Dilley also stayed with beefy at 10th man to get his test 50 iirc...
Sir Bob should be lauded as well...
memories...Jim Laker on commentary too
But Beefy's century was the catalyst that kicked off the comeback, without that there was no chance.Graham Dilley also stayed with beefy at 10th man to get his test 50 iirc...

Further o/t.Wasn't it during that series that Richie Benaud said, "It had to happen: Lillee. Caught Willey. Bowled Dilley"
Or is that an urban myth?
