Z4M is going and I've bought a supercharged VX220 as a weekend and track car, as well as a bit of a project.

Now need something for sub 8/9k to drive back and forwards to work in comfort/economy.

I am well aware that these are complete badge snob choices and that I'd get more car buying a skoda octavia vrs or a new mondeo. BUT...

Out of these two, which would you go with and why.

On paper the tax is about the same, insurance is withing 2 groups of each other. Prefer the exterior of the BWM and the interior of the audi.

It has to be used every day in winter but I managed that in the Z4M with winter tyres this year, so doubt this is an issue really.

Well, as it's a commuter type car, go with the one you prefer to be sat in. Go for the A4.

I would say go for the BMW thats a personal choice over the Audi, I much prefer RWD of the BMW to the FWD/4WD you get in the Audi.

Sounds quite similar to me, I have a VX220 Turbo for the weekends and a BMW 120d for the daily smile

I'd recommend the BMW, I had a 320d as a brief company car and it was very nice. Comfortable to sit in, easy to drive, surprisingly competant in the bends and I think the new E90 shape is quite appealing.

Have you considered an E46 330cd though? Personally, I think they look a bit better than the E90, and you'll get a cleaner example for the money.

Concur with this tbh. Though for the difference i think the petrol is probably the better option.

Otherwise if interior of a4 appeals get the a4. Mine has been a legend. I cannot praise it highly enough in all respects. Brilliant in almost all areas. Fantastic 10 speaker sound system great on fuel 650miles per tank minimum.

Very calm and quiet at motorway speeds. Costs peanuts to run.

Why manage?

If it's a winter car get a quattro.

Because it wasn't needed. I drove it daily up until the schools shut. The snow stopped me after that, as the snow was deeper than the bumper and I wasn't going to damage the bodywork.

Quattro in my TT was great in the snow, but winter tyres made the M more than capable. In fact I took it out instead of the fwd Rover in the end as it was easier to maintain grip. Rover was on all seasons.

Will look at E46 as well...
