Another 'What Roadtrip' thread...
Discussion
I'm planning to do a road trip over the 1st two weeks of Sept with the girlfriend, hoping to pull together a route which isn't too taxing and gives enough downtime for it to be classed as a holiday.
The route I've got in mind would be form London to Nice/Monaco area, staying there for 3 nights
Then drive to Lake Como and stay there over the Italian GP weekend and hopefully going to Monza for the Saturday F1 action.
Next, on the Monday set off from Como to Davos taking in the San Bernadino pass, Bernina Pass and Fluela.
After an overnight in Davos head to Montreux via the Oberalp Pass, Furka and Grimsel Passes.
Stay in Montreux for one night, then drive to Paris for an overnight stop.
Then back home.
My question is for accomodation recommendations. I'm planning to take 2-3 days for the 1st leg from London to Monaco and it's the two overnight stops there which I'm unsure about. Where would be best to stay with some decent accomodation but not for silly money?
Also looking for accomodation that fits the same low-cost but still decent quality for the Nice/Monaco area. Ideally I'd want somewhere which is easy to drive to Nice, Canne and Monaco from, I'm under no illusions about actually staying in Monaco. I'm sure that'll be out of any reasonable budget.
Looking forward to your recommendations

I'm heading to Venice on the 10th of September, I'll be using the Accor Hotel chain. Which are made up of Ibis, Formule 1, Etap, Mercure hotels and a few others and they have thousands across Europe check there web site out http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/united-kingdom/index...Also looking for accomodation that fits the same low-cost but still decent quality for the Nice/Monaco area. They cover a wide price range from the cheap as chips F1, Etap hotels, to the more pricer Mercure, Novotel hotels.
On my return journey I will be staying in Lake Como for two nights, I'll be staying in a hotel near Bellagio. There is a Ibis hotel near Lake Como but its a few miles from the lake.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Glen it looks like that one is fully booked for the dates I'm planning.
I'm torn between planning the trip to be at Lake Como for Italian GP weekend, or doing it all one week later and accept that there'll be more availability but I'll miss F1 cars at Monza.
My bigger question though is where to stay on the overnight between London and the Cote d'Azur. I'd like to avoid staying in the F1 chain with the girlfriend. I've stayed there on road trips in the past and while they serve a purpose, I think I could return from this trip a single man if I book that for me and the missus.

We did a similar trip last year. Our 2 overnight stops on the way to Monaco were Besancon and Annecy:-

In Monaco we stayed 2 nights at the Novotel:-

It's easy walking distance to the Casino and the Marina (but obviously uphill on the way back!
)
I would thoroughly recommend all these hotels, in fact we are doing another trip this year albeit a different route, this time starting in Bilbao but still including Monaco, and have booked the Novotel again.
If you wanted to stay somewhere between Monaco and Monza this place is lovely too:-

You must do the Col de Torini on the way!
