How to change the front anti roll bar mounting bushes??
Discussion
Hi,
Has anyone ever changed their front anti roll bar bushes?
If so, what were the affects on the handling... what was it doing before and did it make a noticable difference?
My steering (e46 330ci) tends to wanter and under braking you feel a bump as the bar moves around. Had it up on ramps and could move it by hand will mionimal force!
Also, I'm hoping to do repair by myself. Is it simply 2 bolts per clamp, pull off old, and replace with new??
Cheers

It can be awkward, you'll probably need the front off the ground, on jackstands, and the link rods undone too.
Take the roll bar off, swap the bushes and get it bolted onto the car, then use a jack to get the rest of the bits lined up to bolt back on.
I'd imagine if you just undid the bush brackets, you could lever it away from the car, but you'd struggle to push it back into the right place.

Little mire searching and sometimes they are called sway bars..... And the DIY manual:

Easy peasy!
Any advice on bushes manufacturers?

Problems you describe more likely due to the lower wishbone bushes needing replacement.
Yeh, that's what I'm beginning to think. The seller said he had had everything set up post control arm replacement but i think ill double check. I Had a TVR with poor set up and that was similar in behavior.Changing the ARB bushes is no problem, and cheap enough to try first. Bit awkward without a lift, but I managed on axle stands.
I can't remember if I took the droplinks off or not but if you do you need a thin 16/17mm spanner to get the droplinks done up again. Check before you pull everything to bits.
Cured a knocking on bumps for me, but not tramlining (fixed by new tyres)

You almost certainly require front control arm rear bushes. If you want some roll bar bushes, you can get urethane replacements from Powerflex but you will need to measure your roll bar first.
Powerflex also do the lower arm bushes and they have a lifetime warranty.
Call Powerflex on 01895 460033
Front roll bar bushes are a doddle to fit and just slip onto the roll bar as they are split, the control arm bushes are also straightforward, especially if you buy them ready fittd in the housings, a half hour job then, otherwise a press or large vice will be very useful.
