So. Bought this car last november. 2 years old, from a Sytner dealership, on BMW finance. So full years warranty and all that.

Since then, the first 2 weeks i had it, it was in the garage on two occasions getting fixed (manifold problem, some kind of pipe for the second visit)

Took it in for servicing, and mentioned the limp mode it went into a week previously. Pressure sensor replaced.

This time, it's in getting repaired after someone drove into the back of me, and between the time that happened and putting it in for repairs, it goes into limp mode twice.

Been called this morning to say the engine wiring harness needs to be replaced. I've checked online and this aint a cheap part.

So i'm wondering just what i'm in for when the warranty ends?! Do i have any case for a replacement car if it has to have problems checked out more than x number of times. It's not a level of quality i would have expected from the top of the line 3 series.

start to moan to the DP and keep hard copies, if its the same fault being repaired then you have a case (used to work for vauxhall for my sins), normally involves speaking to BMW UK but would expect a lot more on a 50k car (new). good luck

Put simply... I'd not want to own a modern complex car with high parts and labour costs (such as an ///M series BMW) without a warranty. Extend it.

Bit of a shame though isnt it, that you have to buy an extended warranty to cover a motor that keeps developing niggling faults.

I've emailed BMW UK about it in the meantime to see what they say.

would not dream of running mine without warranty. It has just had the manifold problem too and a couple of gearbox leaks fixed so will extend the warranty in september.service at the dealer was excellent though.

If you are someone who can't afford £60k on one of these new (I couldn't)and have bought used then you are best off extending the warranty.

keep extending the BMW warranty, M cars can be quite troublesome.
Mine warranty has paid for itself every year. This year twice over....

It's outrageous that you buy a 2 year old M3 and have to be in and out of the garage plus invest in an extension of warranty to be on the 'safe' side.

Make sure you write a good letter to BMW UK telling them this and try and get them to pay or at least contribute towards your next warranty.

I've just extended my warranty on my E91 for a year. Cost was about £300 with a £100 excess. Wasn't too bad I thought, given the bills that these cars can generate if they go wrong.

The warranty eventually becomes more expensive than taking a bill on the chin though. I'd be into my third year of warranty on my E65 if I'd kept it going (at approximately £2000 a year!) so I'd have spent £6000 already, and in that time I've perhaps had (admittedly at indie rates) about £500 worth of warranty work done.

I think the point is its about time BMW release a performance car which us the consumer don't have to worry about 'after care warrantys', I was worried about the vanos on mine but its 11 years old, however a 2 year old M3 or even a 4 year old M car should be robust enough to stand up to daily driving. they need to get it sorted in my opinion.

Well after writing an email to BMW Warranty department i got a very apologetic representative confirm to me that the state of this car was NOT what the M brand or BMW was about etc etc etc.

The long and short of the call was to basically advise me to take out an extended warranty next year. As nice as the guy was at the end of the phone, it was more about trying to keep me sweet than to actually let me know what my rights were.

So, the entire wiring loom (or harness as they called it) has been replaced now. No problems since, but then again it's only been two weeks.

I wondered if i had a case to hand the car back or demand some kind of replacement if it had been in the shop more than x amount of times. As much as it's only a minor inconvenience at the moment since i have a warranty, i shudder to think how much the car would cost me if i didnt have a warranty.

Having the right to hand the car back is a bit of a grey area, as obviously they dont want this to happen so they (the dealer) will try all they can to prevent it and youd have to of had a reoccuring issue for months before they'll admit defeat and let you hand it back

The best tatic for that scenario though is to call BMW Financial Services (If its on Finace ofc) and explain to them the situation, as its technically still their car they have an intrest in keeping the car in running order so will put pressure on the dealer to sort it out

Always call the Finance guys from the begining though, as they note it down and if they see youve had nothing but issues with the car youve got more of a chance of getting a resolution

And for those that asked, i traded the M3 in for a new 335i Convertible, but its not here until Sept, just in time for winter tongue out
