You have owned a alfa according to top gear.
But i think it should be a classic car.
The constant worry of it breaking down learning to fix it when its broken.
What do other people think.
What car do you need to experience before you are a petrol head.
Over to you thumbup

You are not a petrol head until? You ignore anything that comes out of Jeremy Clarksons' mouth.

You've driven an MX5 and own RWD.

FWD is for pre-school tricycles only.

Agreed, I like the guy but if I'm talking about cars and someone pipes in with "well clarkson said..." I immediately ignore them.

You're not a petrol head until you've owned a Mazda RX-8 for over a year.

you are not a petrol head until....

you find a 0-60 stat about your own car that "proves" the irritating bloke in the pub was incorrect.

then a part of you dies.

...you have fixed your own car at the roadside

....you have stopped to help someone else fix their car at the roadside

..... you smile at the mere thought of a V8 rumble

......you have worked under a car and had petrol drip onto your head

You have rebuilt an engine. (Up until that point you are an amateur.)

You have jumped a car more than 20 feet.

You have jumped out of a moving car.

You know how everything in your car works (even diffs, though they are easy, witchcraft is how they work)

You can hold a drift on a wet roundabout while wearing a cowboy hat while smoking a cigar.

You have crashed when showing off. "Here guys watch this"

You have raced on a real race track.

You have had sex in a moving car.

Not wanting to be offensive but your statement is just as bks as Clarkson's. Being a petrolhead is a state of mind not about what you own or have owned.

You either are, or you aren't. State of mind thing, it may or may not manifest itself in choice of cars owing to other circumstances. I don't have a wife and 4 kids, so I may appear more petrolheaded than if I did.

You're not a petrolhead until you've thrown money at something just because you think it will impress other petrolheads. Also some bks about RWD and driving to work sideways.

Can we lock the thread now?

Spent more money than you should do on a car.

Run something 5-10+ years old to get something more classic, iconic and sporty even though you can afford a quite nice new car for the same money.

Walked into a car show room for a chat about possibilities of a used model that is maybe going to make it on your shortlist at some point in the future, and walking out sans deposit for a shiny new one that you saw there and then.
