We're planning a week's holiday from 28th August to Crete, I've found a nice place in Hersonissos but just wondered if anyone would recommend one of the other resorts?

Thanks

My Sister and family go to Crete most years and stay in Hania they love it - very good for kids as well apparently, if that makes a difference.

I live in Crete and where you say is full on tourist and all inclusive. not the real crete.

book flights, hire a car from the airport and head towards panormos, 55km drive from the airport. Traditional and loads to do. See my ;post on roads for something interesting!

I can recommend the Minoa Palace Hotel in Platanias. Platanias itself is ok but only a short bus ride into Chania.

Spent a great couple of weeks at the St Nicolas Bay Hotel just outside Agios Nikalos last year. http://www.stnicolasbay.gr/

Resort not that great but the hotel was awesome. Very chilled and nicely secluded in its own bay.

We stayed in Maleme.

It was late in the season, and there were not many people around when we did, it was nice enough.

fairly boring though I guess, we went to the beach a few times, which tbh on the north coast isn't great, the water is lovely but the beach isn't up to much.

we filled our time doing things, we did the gorge which was great fun!

Hania was ok, apart form the harbour which you could see in a day it was nothing out of the ordinary?

I second that. Woke up to a sunrise over a sheltered bay with no buildings in view except a medieval venician fortress dominating the harbour entrance about 2 miles away. Beautiful.

Plus its supposed to be popular with some hollywood stars. Jennifer Anniston is known to frequent there as is Bruce Willis. Jeremy Clarkson also holidays there lol
