Hi

The OH is sitting next to me (she runs Tigerlily in Edinburgh) and suggests -

1) If you can get a table at The Honours in Castle Street (centre of town) it would be worth a go - newly opened by a Michelin star chef, it's a cheaper version of his original restaurant but will be very good.
2) If you want to stay in Leith try The Ship on the Shore - If you are staying at Malmaison its not far

cheers

Tim

Hi thanks for the reply. What sort of budget will the first one need? Sounds good!

Try the cellar door. Went recently and it was very good and reasonably priced. Near King George V bridge

Another vote for The Shore. I used to work in a Leith shore bar, so I know them all. Kings Wark not bad either, but it's more of a gastropub. Teuchtars on the Shore (spelling!) is another decent effort.

After recommending The Honours (Martin Wishart) to the OP I ended there today after they got an amazing review in the SOS. One word - amazing. Seemingly they had spent a lot of time researching how to cook the perfect steak and came up this oven/bbq/chargrill thing that cooks it at 650 degrees - it works because my steak was first class! Got a tour round the kitchen and their attention to detail was frightening.
