2.0 lump, Hyundai Coupe. Failed MOT with a Lambda reading of 1.033 (Pass limit is 1.030 so only just over). CO and HC were fine.

No exhaust leaks, no manifold cracks. Any suggestions? I have zero experience with Hyundai's!

Cheers!

Your car failed by a minamal amount - your solution can be straight forward.
1. Check your air filter is clean any doubt replace it
2. Add a good fuel treatment cleaner to your tank - wynns/forte if you can get it - iv had very good results with a product called cataclean costs about £9.00 - £12.00 depending where you buy from
3.When you take you car for MOT re-test take you car for a run on the motorway first - run at 70 mph keep in 4th gear so you realy warm the cat up before the test hotter the cat the better the result.

This should get you through its what i would do to mine with this senario - good luck.

It does look ropey, 05 plate and still on the original, although i've been under and had a right good look all over it and there's no sign at all of a leak. I'd expect to see a carbon stain somewhere?

Have a new air filter, its getting an interim service before the retest anyway. Will try the fuel addative. Also the car was not up to temp when we arrived at the test station, and although it was run for a while on the extended emissions test the engine was not under strain. I'll make sure it gets a run before the retest.

Thanks for the responses both!

The exhaust leak you are looking for will be around the manifold or down pipe. Anywhere else on the system is unlikely to have an effect.

Ive not done anything on it yet, but now the Check Engine light has come on. It's been reset twice and still persists- reappearing after a few miles. Heavy fuel usage also. Lambda sensor possibly? I believe the second one is diagnostic only so might swap the first one unless I can find someone who reads fault codes for it...
