Evening Peeps,

Ive owned my Fiesta ST now for 15 months but i feel a change is needed. Don't get me wrong its a great car but im after something a bit more 'fun'. Im very picky when it comes to choosing a car but one car that does stand out for me is the fiat 500 abarth.

I made a good 40 mile journey to my local or shall i say nearest abarth dealership to have a look at a few and i was taken back how good it looks inside and out. The scorpion treatment really does this car justice but the only downside i could find was the room. Obviously its a small hot hatch so room will be limited.

Something else that also caught my eye in the showroom and that was a grande punto abarth or AGP for short. Again it looks good in white with white wheels and abarth decals down each side but of course i always look for negatives whistle and the only one i could find was that its 0-62 time is qouted at 8.2 seconds which is mid range hot hatch territory compared to the likes of the clio 197 or the VXR family.

So my question to fellow Pistonheads members is this : What is the fiat 500 abarth ( 135bhp) like to own? and is the essesse kit which puts up to 160bhp worth it?
And the 2nd question is is the same but about the Abarth Grande Punto, What is it like to own/drive and would the SS kit be worth it?

The obvious upgrade to a fiesta ST is a Focus ST which i haven't ruled out as such but Abarth appeals to me. Would love to know people's opinions on these and any other car ideas? Budget is around £10k but could stretch to £11k. and thats working on £5k saved up and £5k trade in the fiesta which i have been qouted roughly.

500 Abarth all the way. we had one but had to sell as we couldnt get the car seat in the back. loved it good car to drive and handels realy well. Heres our one before we sold it. still miss it.
we had the 135bhp one which was more than enough but you can put box Called a TMC box which i think puts it to 165bhp i think and it only takes 10mins to fit and then all you do it unplug it when it goes in for a service. good peice of kit.

Wasn't a fan of the 500 when I drove it (but can't deny it's a fantastic looking car), and the newer Punto (the evo one) is fugly. The power figures just don't seem to justify their price tag unless you get the SS kit. I mena, 0-60 in 8.2 secs is slower than the ST, I know it's not all about 0-60 times though.

The non-evo version looks nicer imo, but I've only been a passenger in one so can't comment on how it drives.

Also - are you looking at brand new or second hand? I was told that the SS kit must be fitted within 12 months and under a certain mileage, so some second hand ones you wouldn't be able to get the SS kit - that could be a lie I was told by the dealer though to encourage me to buy a brand new one.

You'd be better spending you savings here - www.mountuneperformance.com Could go straight to stage 2, then stage 3 in a few months when it's available with change to spare. Although I'm a little biased...

Thanks for the reply guys, do you know what the mileage limit is for adding a SS kit? or if not is there an easier and cheaper way to get 160hp out of the little scorpion and is cheaper than £2k?

You get a year or I think 10k miles to add the Esseesse kit. I know there are cheaper ways of getting more power etc but I went for the kit due to it being OEM and not affecting the warranty, plus I plan on keeping the car for at least 3 years. I like the Punto too, never drove it but it looks fantastic and plenty of room. If you aren't fussed about sacrificing a little fun and speed I'd get the Punto, if not get the 500. I'm 25, single and don't need a big car so went for the 500 :-)

Get the 185 upgrade for the ST and some blistein b12's. The Fiats are both 'pretty' cars which makes them look like a girl should be driving it. Far too fussy for a hot hatch. They dont look right.

With that added to the ST you should be a match for most normal hot hatches.

What's a load of bks?

The OP has £5k and a Fiesta ST, he could bung £2.5k at the ST and get a better handling faster version of the same car and the Duratec lump is as tough as old boots, with no 'fashion' premium to the price like the 500 has and no potential turbo related issues in the future.

A focus st is far better than either. Just drive one and feel how much more muscular it feels.

He might as well burn his money.
