Porsche boss confirms baby Boxster

They say this is heavily 550 Spyder influenced (they also said that about the Boxster though). It sounds like a lighter and even more nimble Boxster. Basically what the Boxster should have been. It sounds exciting and it even costs less than the Boxster if it's half as attractive and cool as the 550 Sypder they'll sell all they can make.

Porsche will increase the size of its two-seat roadster, the 2012 Boxster, in order to make room for a smaller and cheaper entry-level model based on the new Volkswagen BlueSport.
The next Boxster’s wheelbase and overall length will both grow, the latter to nearly 4.4 metres, providing more passenger and luggage space.
The timing of the arrival of he new convertible coincides with the end of Porsche’s contract with Valmet Automotive in Finland, where the current Boxster and Cayman are made. In early 2012, production of the cars will switch to Stuttgart.
Before then, incoming Porsche boss Matthias Muller will clear the way for a cheaper entry-level Porsche based on the new mechanicals of the VW BlueSport roadster, Autocar has learned.
Muller is an expert product planning strategist who’s proved his skills within the VW Group, and is a supporter of the three-pronged plan to put the BlueSport into production.
His remit from the highest ranks of the VW Group executive board is to integrate Porsche into the organisation by harmonising its production methods with those of its new sister brands, and by seizing opportunities for wider co-operation and component sharing with Audi in particular.

Awesome; a 30k MX5 rival!
I'm sure it will be fantastic but unless it is much much cheaper than the Boxster I'm not sure that there is much point as it is already a wonderful car and is hardly big enough to warrant an understudy.
A stretch from 4.37m to 4.4 might just solve my seating issues...but not much else!

I hope they don't get the photocopier out and make a slightly smaller boxster, like they did with the boxster and made it a slightly smaller 911.
The original boxster concept was a great looking car, the production version wasn't the same, especially the '911 with a different bumper' front end.

Well the potential upside is a lighter, more nimble more reasonably priced Porsche that would be easy to flick through traffic. The potential negative would be an underpowered and unimpressive car with only a badge rather than the marque's core values. I think it has potential and am going to hold out until I've actually seen and driven one but I can't say that a more reasonably priced, lighter Porsche convertible can be a bad thing.
I am think in the lines along a faster, cooler MR2 spyder type car with Porsche build quality.

Dont they "confirm" a lot of BS though, I take them as the news of the world of the motoring world.
IIRC didnt they confirm something like productiong of the Ford GT90 and claimed to have driven it? Turned out they push the prototype off the back of a wagon (realy!!) for in motion shots?
