Recording - Video to DVD - Know how?
Discussion
Can anyone help me out with this one?
I have a recordable DVD player and a normal Video recorder and want to see if I can play a video and record it onto DVD using the two machines.
Anyone got any idea how I might go about this, cos I have not got a clue!?
Any help greatly appreciated.

I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder thingy with hard drive. I just connect my Video to the recorder via the scart or phono leads and press play on the video and record on the dvd. Works fine for me. When copying from my camcorder, I use the DV out port on the camcorder to the firewire - i video - port on the dvd. This allows me to edit the video as I want to. Hope this helps

I would say that this should be quite easy.
Check the VCR and DVD-R machine to see what connections they support and then link the two together. The easiest would be a scart to scart, or you will then need to do S-Video to S-Video plus two leads for the left and right audio. Or Composite Video to Composite Video and then two leads for Audio.
The best quality will be S-Video, however Scart to Scart is the simpler method of connection. The only thing to watch out for it that the Scart on the DVD-R needs to support IN and not OUT only, sometimes these machines have two or more Scarts where one is IN & Out for video and sound and the rest are all just "Out" so you can connect them to you TV and other equipment.

Does the TV not need to be connected then? I just link the to machines together and hit play and record?
If you connect through the scart on the DVD, you may need to use the phono out sockets on the back of the DVD to the phono sockets on your TV Press the AV button to get to the DVD input for the socket. Normally AV2 or AV3. Press play on the video and it should work.

Yes, but without a TV you won't be able to see what's going on - it's helpful to have it as a monitor.
With your DVD Recorder you should have an instruction manual with diagrams of boxes, connections etc. Have a look!
