ACT Silicon Hose - Filter to AFM/Plenum

Just a quick one about the ACT silicon hose. I'm going to buy the replacement air filter to air flow meter one and is it worth buying the additional hose to go from air flow meter to the plenum? I'm thinking that surely if you're replacing some of the pipe then it only makes sense to do all of it?

Also if anyone has any rough ideas on improvments it's likely to offer a standard 5.0 then all the better!

Thanks for reminding me.
Having studied a few Nobles at the weekend I noticed their rather tasty large Smaco induction pipes.
Was wondering if the ones that ACT supply are the same. Anyone got any pics?

Yeah actually I'll second that request for some pics please! I was going to get this done when Austec serviced the Griff last week but Paul only had a red one in stock and I thought it'd look a bit crap under the bonnet of an imperial blue griff.

Talking of Austec, another thumbs up from me for fantastic service. Worth the price alone just for how the brake calipers look! Looking forward to having it fitted if you're reading this by the way!

They are not Samco - they are unbranded. I think they fit okay with the AFM in the standard position (i.e. not on the end of a triple ACT air box, and yes, it would be worth changing the top one as well. It flow more air, reputed to be worth 5 bhp, but you might need your fuel map tweaking to get it.

I'm a big ACT fan and this is a good product but IMHO needs a bit of fine tuning to ensure it doesn't snag the bonnet's leading edge.I owe Tim a pic on this and will hopefully get this done tommorrow

Hi Tiny, my Hose(not Silicon yet) rubs against the Bonnet and I think you'll find a few others do too.
The cable tie bracket needs to be moved down an inch to pull it down a bit further.
I also find one of my Act Hoses ribs on teh underside of the bonnet too.

This isn't the norm though, since last week i have phoned around to see how they have been fitting (about 20 units now fitted) and have to report that assuming the meter is in the original postion yours is the only one with this problem. we need to check that you have the correct one fitted.

Tim, not saying it does with the silicon one but I Know for sure that the FF one does on some and its right a the front edge where the hose dips down below where the bonnet guides go in to.
Seen a few bonnet when they are up that are chipped on the right hand side.

Anyhow a bit cheeky of me Tim but do you have any in stock as i have talked myself into getting some to go with the Coolant Hoses i brought of you allready.
If yes then i will mail you teh order through your site.

Would be to fit a standard plenum chamber on mine so should't be a problem. When I spoke with Paul at Austec about it he assured me that they hadn't seen any problems with ones they've fitted.

When you say the fuel map would need tweaking, would that be done with the standard ecu or are we talking about needing a Mark Adams chip and subsequent rolling road session? Interestingly enough I've had to reset my ecu since the Griff was on Austec's rolling road last week so would it need another session on the rollers after having the new silicon hose(s) fitted?

Reason for asking is I don't want to turn up at Austec in a couple of weeks expecting an afternoons work that they cant fit in at short notice.

I'm having this done with the new AFM when the engine is finished ... Seen it in place and it looks superb.

Apparently having a straight inlet hose is worth 8bhp
according to Mr Adams himself..

I was about to question the positioning of the airfilter...then realised it wasnt on a Griff!

I bought a set at last year's mania; much better than the std hoses that looked good externally but on closer inpection were rotting & generally falling apart internally. However, I have one observation, they do get VERY warm and a little soft & have recently lagged them with reflective tape. This seems to have done the trick.

OK, so lead it straight from the plenum out of the nearside of the car and put a big airscoop on the outside... then you can pretend it's an Me109F...

I was talking about a Mark Adams chip. I wouldn't have thought you could provide more air and just expect the ECU to make use of it, although perhaps the AFM, sensing more air coming in will richen the mixture accordingly and there you go. Better asking Mark about that one.

After reading this posting I ordered the plenum to airflowmeter hose from Tim. I can confirm it fits perfectly on a lefthanddrive 4.3 with cat. It looks the bollocks and after removing the old hose I can see why this is supposed to give you an extra 3 bhp. Unfortunatly Tim could not provide the rest of the hoses because they are moulded to fit only the righthanddrive cars. Maybe next year he will have things sorted for lefthanddrive cars.

Are the hoses simple to fit? I've been thinking about getting some too, as the current ones are slowly falling to bits and look tatty.
