I have the opportunity to purchase a Sinn 756 Diapal for a decent price from 2011 as new condition with rubber strap and tegimented bracelet.

It would mean selling my 2009 Seamaster which is also nearly mint. I like both but I'm a bit torn.

I find it hard to fault the Seamaster, I love the dial waves, the skeleton hands the red 'Seamaster' and second tip. The bracelet is very comfortable and the clasp & case back are beautiful in my eyes. The size is great and it can be worn smart or casual. In fact I've said to my other half a few times now, there is nothing I wish that was different on the Seamaster.

However...

I still find myself drawn to the Sinn in a large way. It has lots of technology like the tegimented case & bracelet that I like, the UTC (GMT) hand which I do miss in a watch. The copper sulphate capsule to reduce moisture in the case and of course the Diapal technology making the escapement lubricant free.

Would love some thoughts on what you'd do in my position...

Pics always help I find.

Hmmm... tricky one.....

TBH I'm not so sure that I could offer any advice other than say that maybe the SMP would be the easier of the two to dress up or down, other than that they both have their merits.

A couple of times now I've thought about letting my 757 go in order to fund an SMP so I kinda see your dilemma headache

I've got a Seamaster I happy with but that Sinn is lush. I can see where you're coming from!

Well to my eyes the Omega is much more elegant than the Sinn, it's the one I would choose every time.

756. You can always find the Omega again - the Sinn is as rare as hen's teeth.

Sinn, and a tan Toshi while you're at it.

A nice problem to have though !

That's a very fair point, on that basis I think you've found your answer Muska - and you'll also be going against your post saying that the SMP was a keeper wink

I remember the days when you were banging on about your modded Monster, and here you are now debating the pros and cons of Sinns and Omegas.... laughwink

The Seamaster is a lovely watch and a lot less common in black than blue. Still not very exclusive thought, unlike the Sinn.

I would gladly have either.

Personal preference is for the Sinn, although in a lot of respects there is a Rizla between them, I think the Sinn just has more going for it on a few more fronts. Uncommon, the tech you allude to, the unshinyness of the centre links and no gilt marker surround (I did say personal!) and the 'gauge-like' readability that Sinn is famous for.

It'd be easy to get the Sinn and move back to the Omega if need be anyway.

The Sinn would make for a more interesting timepiece but it depends on whether you mingle with watch geeks or not.

I've got an alternative; let me know who'll sell you the Diapal at a good price, I'll buy it, and then once in a while I'll send you a nice picture of it, possibly even from a different angle. In the meantime you can carry on enjoying the Omega. biggrin

haha, Stuart I may just have to do that!

Decision made. I'm keeping the Seamaster. I'll only regret selling it and I've flipped far too many watches this year already. I don't rub noses with watch geeks really so thats no issue, I usually buy only for my own tastes. I'm going to pick up a Sinn 556 or 656 second hand for daily wear so I stop wearing the Seamaster most days.

Stuart, if you want the details drop me an email and I'll forward you on to him. If anyone knows of a sinn for sale...

Thanks for the input. Would love the 756 Diapal and can see me having more of their range in the future.

Matt.

The 556 is a strange one in that you never see them on TZ, then you'll see 3 sold within a week.

On a sidenote, it's strange the dial on the Sinn doesn't have 24hr markings, at a glance it would require thought of the time in your 2nd timezone.

It's a UTC rather than 24hr; the second timezone hand goes around in 12hrs, not 24.

Aaah. Not that, that helps with the AM/PM problem.
