I know a few of you have been making custom lights recently similar to marcoswoody's design and i was thinking of making some myself, but i was still keen on afterburner style flush units. The last thread i could find on an attempted manufacture of these was....
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... rear led lights and deffusers for Noble

When loooking for light parts for my own i found a company called www.quadconversions.com and got in touch with them after i saw their tvr rear lights....
http://www.quadconversions.com/tvr_chimaera_and_ce...

This is the reply I got...
"We did a light for the Marcos LM 500, a life time ago, pre digital cameras. If you can get 20 plus deposits, we would produce a light for you. We laser scan lights now and do the design work on computer, then CNC the moulds out for extreme accuracy. Parts are now injection moulded in polyurethane plastic. We would only need one light to work from."

Also he added that "'Afterburner' was a registered trade name of ours."

This hopefully looks promising and waiting on hearing back back about cost estimates etc.

I was thinking about it and what i would prefer and thought about two ring setup with all included, and matching colours for both rings.

My thoughts were:
outer ring 1 -red, brake and rear light
outer ring 2 - red, reflector
inner ring 1 - clear, indicator
inner ring 2 - clear, one side reverse and the other a clear foglight

I am not so keen on the chrome look that you can get for the outer rings, eg one as brake and tail lights and the other stop lights, as i think it looks too bright with the clear inners. I also prefer the faired in look, i know it can cause condensation problems sometimes, but i have fixed this on my bmw a few times so not an issue for me.

Anyway any ideas on what people want and anyone wanna sign up for the 20? I will get back to you when i hear more about cost etc.

Will start it off: 1) gledy2

Cheers, allan

Allan - I`ve also passed these details on to Marcos Heritage Spares, as they were the original `suppliers` of `Afterburner` parts to Marcos owners and would probably also be interested in this subject and could increase the order size to drive down the costs.

I'll be interested to know how you get on finding some red outers as the only ones I've found are the large 125 ish mm Hella Premiums.

I did think about spray tinting the chrome rings but I think it would be too fiddly to make them look nice.

Thanks guys, And thanks for passing that on bob. Will put you down as a provisional as well then Simon x50. I have emailed him about a rough cost and see what he says.

Blue3r, yes just wanting things to match as well as possible, the ones I saw were Hellas premiums but I am not sure what they use, was just trying to get interest together before I get a design finalised, depending on what the majority want but get the impression they can do most things. The ones I saw myself were Hella premiums, looked at lots of others but most stuff bigger. My dad had a spare f355 light but was 130mm. Had a look at lotus LEDs but too dear for me! Skyline units too big without enough different lights in them. Vw golf mk5 Hella LEDs were nice but angled and big. That was when I was trying myself so will see what we can get from them as they do it for a living!! Lol.

This certainly looks like a more promising way forward and subject to final specs/prices I'll be interested.

Wonder if a carbon fibre "wrap" or surround be a nice touch?
