Putting a private registration on a new (used) car

I've put a deposit on a used car, which I should be able to collect in a week or two and I want to put a private plate on it. I already have a private plate on my main car, so I know the general process.
But what's the quickest way to do this? I would rather not have to send off the V5 to get it transferred into my name and then have to send it off again to change the registration. Can I combine the new ownership details with the registration change?
Is there any way to start the process before I collect the car - i.e. is there anything the dealer can do?

I usually retain it and then once I have the car transfer it over, it's a bit more expensive I think than just a straight swap but last time I did a straight swap with change of ownership details it took ages.

Get a V317 and fill it in.
provide your car has the paperwork in order and the DVLA don't want to inspect it, the dealer should be able to put your plates on the car prior to delivery.
You need the VIN number of the car you are buying and the serial number of its tax disc, and MOT certificate if required.
