Very sad indeed..

But as the car has been outside, in a pub's car park, cause of fire could not have been the charging point, right??

Could have been, they short out at any time and then whoosh up she goes, disconnect or replace, £17 and 2 hours labour.

CHECK IMMEDIATELY - I Checked mine and it fell apart in my hands.

Yes, in the same way as it can happen parked on your drive at 6 in the morning, having not been run for a couple of days. Apparently. smile

Interesting..

With my basic (very basic) knowledge of these things, I would have thought that to cause a short from the charging point, it would have to be connected to the battery conditioner. Obviously, I was wrong..

Good thing that my battery is very much dead at the moment, so wont have to worry about it... :-)

Removed my Anderson connector for exactly that reason. Will get one fitted into the engine bay at next service... they just get full of crud behind the front wheel...

There are no fuses and the battery is connected directly. If it shorts (which it can do), there is nothing to stop the battery frying the cables, and then all hell breaks loose, first the cables, then the battery overheats then the GRP, then well that is it.

Took mine in to SussexTVR for a replacement fuel pipe and John noticed my connector was shot to bits and he removed it for me. To be honest I thought the risk sounded minimal but after seeing that video I'm glad he thought to check it!!! I wouldn't have.
