I have got exactly the same 278mm kit on my S3c and the difference is amazing, I've always thought the standard brakes were useless so this kit is a major step forward in my opinion, if it is the same parts as my kit then the calipers/pads are escort cossie or granada cossie, and having just changed the discs and pads that came with my kit the discs are from a cougar 2.5 V6. One tip though is to make sure your rear brakes are adjusted correctly and that the adjusters etc are not seized etc, I also changed my brake fluid while I was there, good luck

Cheers.....Tony..

I believe that I have std brakes on my car, and when I work it hard the fronts lock up quite easily. So, surely better front brakes would make that worse...or do I have a problem with my rear drums (it passed the MOT regularly and the hand brake works)?!?

Auto andy - same debate I'm in right now. Agree standard brakes are a bit tame, so upgraded to 260 mm fronts with XR4 calipers, but it locks up more now and had highlighted my dreadful tyres. Have been in exchange with a member on this forum to see if this has overdone it, but I'd be surprised. Like the post above, want to convert to rear discs when funds pernit.

i suppoose i'll have to get a feel for the brakes once bedded in but on the S Club Scotland tour i didn't have masses of confidence in the standard brakes. don't get me wrong they stopped me everytime but i felt they were a little lacking. maybe i'm too used to more modern cars?

I've a trip to the Stelvio Pass coming up in Sept and I want to eliminate any chance of fade too (hence the DS2000 compound pads I'm after).

The next weakness may well be the tyres but we'll have to wait and see how this goes.

not sure what more rear discs would give as i've had that chat with a few also and went for this option (possibly first).

i'll keep yu posted on how the car performs with the set up i've gone for.

I strongly agree with this comment.

The initial feel of my standard brakes is so far removed from my over servoed ones on the modern daily driver, being slightly soggy and soft. But they stop my car so well, locking up at will if your not careful, that I have never bothered/felt the need to upgrade.

So for me its about perceived stopping ability rather than actual stopping power. IMHO of course.

Having said that I'd love some rear discs just because I think drums look so naff!

Looks good Max.

You'll need them for the Stelvio to avoid brake fade!!!

Max

I have the same kit from Hans (although without the grooved discs) - have to say the improvement was great!

Used whilst sprinting & during the Alps trip & Scotland with no locking up problems (unless you really want to for effect smile).

Highly recommend the upgrade.

I don't believe on the S2 you can alter the brake balance (but I may be wrong).

Cheers

You should be able to lock up the brakes on a S with the standard 240mm disks provided the pads and discs aren't glazed or rusty. The braking on my car was pants when I got it due to rusty discs and glazed pads but new pads and discs transformed it.

Sweet disks Max! clap Look the bees knees. Mine has standard breaks on and I can confirm I can definitely lock them should I feel the need to stamp on the middle pedal!! However, I reckon this is just as much to do with the rubber and first stop will be new tyres.

Also - I quite like the fact that I'm not overly confident with the breaks, theres plenty of feel, but being constantly in the knowledge that I don't think they're as good as my normal car...it only helps to make me a little more cautious and remember that although I may be better looking (getmecoat), no, I am not Jenson Button!!!! Good for a man of my tender years teacher

Best,

Andrew

Just a thought - I have checked and the hoses to the wheels are rubber(ish). I rememebr on an old Triumph that I changes the flexible hoses from rubber to braded steel and it transformed the brakes as I was not making little rubber balloons every time I pressed the brake peddle - Worth checking as well.

PS your breaks do looook good though...just dont fit those nasty brake disk cover-thingys - they just overheat when you push it hard.

Same Granada cosworth fronts but with added Granada cosworth rears to match. 278 front 273 rear, braided brake lines and new servo.

Was a bit snatchy with just the front done and old tyres but much better with the rears converted and new tyres.

While the standard set up can lock the wheels if in good condition I found it would fade and didn't feel great under hard repeated use.

This is a good value conversion IMHO

Deeman. Would be very interested in a chat when you come to convert your drums to disks as we have the same front set up ,there is a bracket available from ge components but I am not sure what calipers to go for. I have had some advice but still not 100 %

Are you telling me they're not? I haven't a clue - had them fitted during a service in readiness for Stelvio.

I just need to find a set of pads in Ferodo DS2000 compound - anyone know where i can get some at a reasonable price?

Nah, just kidding! laugh

If you look far enough you'll find people telling you the grooves are directional, but they aren't.
