I need a new project.

Im thinking about buying a boat that has seen better days, fixing it up and faffing about in it for a while.

Are there specific places that deal in tattered old boats, or is it a case of trawling various classified to find a good project?

Im looking for something small that wont venture further than the river.
Can be a rowing boat, sailing boat or a little power boat.

Budget is around £1000 for the entire thing.

Is this realistic, or is my budget far too low?

You'll probably find a few old speedboats at that price (probably without engine)
I saw a Dawncraft project for £1000 recently (22ft river cruiser I think) or you may stumble upon a "no-brand" cruiser that's seem better days.

Not sure where you are in the country.

Try

http://www.andyseedhouseboats.co.uk/index.php

Or the Chandlery Barge at Swanwick if in the south.

Or Ebay.

Or, is 'boats under £5k for sale' still in print?

Or a boat jumble.
