I was watching the programme about the shuttle last night.
Now, obviously the crew area is sealed up and air tight, but what about the load area?
They put a load of stuff in it at sea level and shut the door. They she's fired into space which is a vacuum, so what happens to the air? Then they get into space and open the doors in a vacuum, do what they have to do, shut the doors and come home. When they land do they have to let some air into the load bay before they open the doors?

The cargo bay area is not pressurised. During ascent, air in the bay will gradually leak out as the outside vacuum increases. The opposite happens during descent.Now, obviously the crew area is sealed up and air tight, but what about the load area?
