Windscreen repair/replace?
Discussion
I have picked up a chip on the windscreen of my 987 Boxster S. It is not big, but the insurance repairers will not touch it because it is only about 2-3cm from the edge of the glass.
I am not that keen on having the whole screen replaced, as I am worried about leaks and damage caused whilst fitting it etc.
Has anyone used a non-insurance based repairer who will repair chips at the edges of the screen? Searching on the subject seems to reveal that the edges are as easy to repair as the rest of the screen, and that the big companies only add this restriction to generate more replacement screens.

I had the same concerns when a dealer put a 6 inch scratch right in the drivers line of vision on my Gallardo. Took it to my local Autoglass for an assessment and they said it couldn't be repaired as was too deep.
Apparently they had some special team that were required to fit it. I don't think this was necessarily for technical reasons, probably more down to ensuring it was done properly first time. Turns out the glass alone cost £3750 which probably explains it!
Did a great job and it never seemed any worse than the original screen when brand new.
