Quick question --

I am getting conflicting reports about whether or not I am responsible for the sewers on my property.

I understood that as they were built pre-1937, the water company were responsible for their upkeep.

This seems to be reinforced by several websites/ documents.

However -- someone has told me that this only applies if the sewer serves more than one property.
This is contrary to what I have told for the last 7 years.

Any thoughts?

Not sure about where you are but everyone here has had a letter off the water company about this very thing! Maybe worth some digging as it implied this was a government thing so I would guess nationwide....

Smiler.

I got the letter from Thames Water.

It suggests that at present, owners of a single dwelling plot are responsible for the whole link out to the main sewer in the road. The impending change is that the water companies will be responsible for the link off the main sewer up to the plot boundary.

Anything within the plot boundary has & will remain the responsibility of the owner.
