Can I get my old numberplate back?

About 8 years ago I bought a few reg numbers directly from the DVLA and put them on family cars which we owned. I also put one of the plates on a lease car from LEX which went back about 3 years ago.

I tried a number of times to get someone at LEX to transfer the plate back to me and was bounced about departments so many times I gave up in the end as I was so busy with other things

I was thinking the other day about the plate and was wondering if I still have any claim on the plate, I did a search on the plate and it still seems to be on the car which I presume was sold at auction .

I was the first and original owner of the plate if it makes any diffrence

Only way to do it is to trace the current RK of the car, and thus legal holder of the plate, and buy it off them.

I very much doubt it. You lost it when you sent the car back.
