HPI check comes back as a Cat B on this Noble...

I'd always thought that B's couldn't be put back on the road, apparently they can be reinspected and upgraded to effectively a Cat C, then pass a VIC check and put back on the road. So the net says anyway.

Bit dodgy, imagine trying to sell it on!

I thought so too but that they could be stripped and the parts sold. CAT A straight in the crusher.

Looking through google pages on it, there's some loopholes that say you can get cat b back on the road, possibly if it gets reshelled.

But I thought the same as both of you.

So it's a dodgy 2.5 with a set of 3R wheels on it. it will be interesting to see if the new owner comes on here to ask advice and stuff.

you know if its been well repaired then there's no reason why it shouldn't make a good car for someone!

No one bought it, he bid it up himself. Told me when I spoke to him about it.

I offered him 12k which I reckon is about right for it.

I'm surprised he admitted to that, although I guessed something similar had happened when it 'sold' for ₤17995 on 18/07/11. I suppose that means this car will keep coming up for sale then. He does come across as a bit dodgy as he doesn't get good reviews as a seller either, particularly regarding vehicles. BTW Did he explain how he managed to get a cat B back on the road, as like others, I thought they could only be sold for parts unless they were completely rebuilt? - something I wouldn't have thought was financially viable in this case.

This is the same car thats been doing the rounds for the last 18 months - 2 years ago.

I enquired about it ( just out of curiosity of the cat B status, i must add ).

No actual definitive explanation how it was still on the road, spoke DVLA and they seemed baffled.

It started off in Birmingham, then Scotland then back to Birmingham and now this guy, and these are all different Autotrader/Ebay/Pistonhead traders.

I think what is happening with it, is its going to auctions and being sold cheap there.

They seem to all write in there adverts that they don't want to sell but have too to release some cash for homes/business ventures, which to me is a load of b******t as far i can make out.The fact of the matter is they can not sell it for there price there asking which has always been about 17-19k.

Would be a cheap Noble at 12-13k but from what i was told about it 18 months ago i did not want to take the risk of taking my wife or kids out in it.

Just my opinion, judge for yourselves!

Nebby, did you manage to find out how it ended up as a cat B in the first place ie was it a result of a big smash or fire/water damage?

Hi Daisy Duke, From what i can remember it was mainly rear end ( heavy ) rear chassis frame was changed i won't go into too much detail how much was changed ( unless somebody does want to buy it then email me direct ).

But the original chap that i spoke to was very adamant to talk directly to me on tht phone rather than emails, and I think he was trying to put my mind at ease to the fact that the repair had been done professionally and i'm not saying it hasn't, but some of the details as to what had been done and changed, got to say i was very concerned.

I used to work in a crash repair centre mostly insurance work and i've seen cars cut up and repaired and i'm saying the odd wing or door, complete front ends complete sides etc, his details on how it had been done, SCARY.

Fit for road, me personally no. Fit for track, possibly. Fit for very fast track use, i wouldn't like to try it.

Just to add, why is it some sellers/traders do not put in there adverts full details of the car if its a cat reg car then put it, its not as if i'm not going to find out.

They manage to put that it drives great looks fantastic, but i want to know the history of it put it in the advert then i'm not wasting my time and MONEY doing checks on it.

All they are proving is they have something to hide. Rant over.

I bet the fact that this thread comes up when a search is done, either on the car or his company, probably means that anyone interested is unlikely to be unaware of the fact though.
