Can anyone help with this? Came to start my 93K 4.0 yesterday morning, started up ok, revved to 2k then died, couldnt start it again. Got the AA out who said it was flooded, took all the plugs out (they were all soaked with fuel-all new plugs i hasten to add)dried them etc tried to start it again and it flooded again. AA man thinks it could be cold start sensor. Does this sound right, and where is it? Has anyone else encountered this problem, any help or advise would be greatly appreciated, as i am new to TVR ownership and not really mechanically minded.

This could be almost anything. If the ignition is iffy then the engine will flood anyway. If the plugs are wet with fuel, you might as well throw them away as it is very very unlikely that cleaning and drying will revive them. I know keep a set with me just in case. Cleaning them with a brass cup brush in a drill followed by a good blast with a hot air gun on max reheat and leave them for 24 hours sometimes does the trick.

There are about 10 or so sensors or bits that could cause this fault so the best thing I can suggest is get the car to someone with the right diagnostic equipment to see what is going on.

I am assuming that the AA man chceked everything like there is a spark and that there is nothing obvious like a broken lead or something like that.

Forgot to add that there is no cold start thingy. The ECU senses the engine temp and extends the fuelling pulses to act as a choke.

Steven,

You could try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a while. Whilst this won't fix any duff sensors it may just help. If problem persists though don't run the car whilst overfueling as a Chimaera plus cat will soon have a duff cat.

Good luck
