Am I a bit wrong for liking these
Discussion
I've only just come across these, a Daihatsu Sirion Rally2 and Rally4 yes they look incredibly awful but just look at the stats for a 1.3 litre
107bhp
850kg
0-60 7.8 seconds
Top speed 115mph
46mpg
and most importantly bhp per ton 127.9
and according to Evo they handle rather well indeed that seems like quite a recipe for rather a lot of fun and the Rally4 is exactly the same as the rally2 but with 4 wheel drive
I'm realy considering getting one just for a laugh they're so cheap

My Ignis Sport only has a power to weight ratio of 115bhp and I thaught that was light weight

Mixed reviews of it on Parkers, getting only 2.5/5 and the 4x4 version is a second slower to 60 so the extra weight and drivetrain losses must hamper it quite a lot.

Edit to add the WhatCar review was worse with 2/5.

Not that I would let these put me off, I'd still go test drive a couple to see for yourself.

Doesn't get the best review here:
http://www.whatcar.com/car-reviews/used/daihatsu/s...
If they were absolute peanuts then I could see the appeal, but at that kind of price. I think i'd op for a unmolested Saxo VTR. Probably slightly heavier but a better all around car i'd say. Or something like the Ford Puma or Sportka.

Top Gear were less than complimentary.

Years ago, I visited the Tower of London. The thing that fascinated me most was Little Ease - a cell so small its occupant couldn't stand or even sit comfortably. This memory came flooding back when I, at 5ft 11in, sat in this car, made for midgets.
The biggest problem is that you cannot adjust the steering wheel, so you're stuck with its cramped driving position. This results in frustration and the need for an osteopath.
Unfortunately, there's more to add on the negative side. The brake pedal feels alarmingly soft, and the over-eager power steering means the driver can feel very little through the steering wheel. Motorway journeys are a problem; the car takes forever to build up to a reasonable cruising speed, and engine noise is so loud that earplugs should come as standard.
But for all its faults, the Rally IV isn't as bad as I've made it sound. The four-wheel-drive system gives confidence in the corners; although it loses grip earlier than expected, you can still throw it round bends at quite a pace without saying goodbye to the road.
The only cosmetic changes compared with the previous version are to the lights, grille and bonnet, which make it look meaner, but it still looks as butch and scary as a puppy.
If you're under five foot and need a nippy little town car, this could be the one, but personally, I'd rather spend the #10,995 on something else. Psychiatric help, perhaps.

I nearly bought an Storia X4 once. That's the version they basically only sold so they could cheat at rallying. They're even lighter, have 20 or so more bhp as standard (from a 0.7!) and can handle a lot more boost.

This is the sign of a true PH! Read all the reviews, ask advice, find it's all negative and there are far better options. Buy the car anyway because it's what you want. Well done that man.

I'm looking at these too and the reviews posted above I read as the Sirion range as a whole and not specific to the Rally2/4. I read the Evo review specific to the 2/4 and it was alright. I'm yet to drive one as the nearest 2 to me are a long drive and so not easy trying to find one for a test drive.
Are parts really that expensive? I'm looking for small+reliable+cheap to buy/run+fun to drive and these appear to fit perfectly despite being as ugly as sin but as an ex scooby owner that isn't an issue.
Has anyone on this thread bought one yet?

A bit materialist... but would you not feel like a bit of a tit driving one of these?
Not at all, will be used for the school run/shopping which for me means rural roads and so fun for a little blast round the lanes on the way home from dropping off etc. The fact it is cheap and has 5 doors as well as quickish 0-60 means perfect for a fun little car which doesn't look like a boy racer's wet dream.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
