About 2 months back I decided I wanted to take advantage of the company Cycle Scheme and get a road bike. I had a look round my LBS ( www.corridori.co.uk ) and after chatting with the very helpful guy (called Guy) I decided on one of these:

2011 Specialized Allez 24 (£589.99)



So the shop wrote me out a quotation to present to my company so the bike voucher could be arranged. For some reason my company decided this process should take at least 2 bloody months! I finally got my voucher in the post last Friday so on Monday I got back down the bike shop to order my bike The shop found my quote and then went a bit quiet It turns out that in the 2 months wait the Specialized Allez 24 has been discontinued!

Luckily Guy had a solution for me! The next model up, the 2011 Specialized Allez Sport (£719.99) was still available and had just been reduced down to £599.99 A better spec bike for basically the same price!



So I ordered that one instead. Guy told me they would get it in today or Wednesday and it would be ready for me to collect, Thursday or Friday. So I was even more impressed when I got a call from them at 2pm today to say the bike was ready and waiting! Now I just need to try and leave work early tomorrow to collect it

Not really. I preferred the colour scheme the triple came in (black) to the double (red).

But I am quite happy to have a double and I like the white colour scheme

Woah deja vu! I was in exactly the same position as you, and my company also took ages to process the voucher. I had originally ordered the Triple 24 but then switched to the Sport Double due to reduced prices.

I've only been out a few times so far, covered about 130 miles but it just felt right from the off. My first road bike, and the drop bars did take a bit of getting used to, but now feel fine.

You wont be disappointed. Enjoy !


Edited to say that the double is actually a 'compact' chainset, so you get almost the same bottom gear ratio as on the triple.

I picked the bike up this afternoon. Its really nice and comfy to ride

One of the guys at the bike shop spent at least 20 minutes showing me how to easily clip my feet in and out of the pedals. And after me saying there was no way on earth I would wear lycra he managed to talk me into a lovely pair of bib shorts! Which I must admit are very comfortable and dont look half as stupid as I thought they might.

I am going out for my first proper ride this Sunday so it gives me a few days to get some more pedal practice in hehe!
