Folks,

Need to lube the garage door up a bit, squeaking like a good un. I know it's not wise to grease the runners, but the other moving bits need a little squirt.

Instructions state graphite powder to lube things up a bit.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks biggrin

Oh, and before anyone puts 'worst I've got an electric gate' thread. It isn't mine biggrin

I use graphite powder for guns, it reduces friction and is not affected by low temps.(like grease)
Assuming you garage will soon be subjected to cool stuff, graphite should work well.

Mine is in a small "puffer bottle", a bit messy to apply.

Because it will encourage the wheels to "skid", they are suppose to rotate.
You will eventually get "flats" on the wheels.
Same theory as car windows.

Grease collects and holds dust, dirt, debris etc., so may well clog up any moving mechanism. Through as another poster mentioned, pencil lead is graphite, and in it’s powder form is sold through locksmiths, car engine (valve grinding) repairers, and any tool, lawnmowers sharpening outlets.

If the OP has problems finding supplies of graphite, then pm me and I will locate a local supplier.
