My mates Wife hated his car... until...

My mate recently bought an ex-police Volvo V70 T5. It was a bit tatty but he painted some bits and generally made the interior a better place to be.
Well his Wife hated it, moaned that it was too big, refused to drive it and also told him to slow down when he was pushing on (not exceeding the speed limit).
Until last night... we were out and we'd had a few drinks so she was designated driver. She was forced into driving 'the tank' and was nervous having only ever driven a Ka/Fiesta. Tentatively she took to the wheel and navigated cautiously out of the carpark. As we headed down the country lane she gained confidence and by the end of journey she was making full use of the 240bhp(?).
She now loves it and wants to drive everywhere in it now. Pretty much the same thing happened with my Wife driving the 172... she loves the power, although she had owned GTIs before.

I had to swap my manual box V70T5 for the wife's auto van a few years ago, while recovering from a nasty ankle/leg fracture. Had to prise her hands off the wheel when it was time to swap back. Laid the groundwork nicely for a sporty little toy (CAR you filthy buffoons) once the kids are a bit older.

Mrstheboy always starts by hating my cars. As she has an MX5 anything else seems massive, and she hasn't driven many different cars so adapts to new ones quite slowly, though this seems to be improving each time.
She only has to drive them when hers is in the shop, then usually changes her tune, especially if for a few days consecutively. She never liked the Puma. After a week in my Clio Trophy she was smitten.
Wierdly she's taken to the Focus RS very quickly, considering it's very big by her standards. We both commute along a road that's got almost no MX5 overtaking points but plenty of Focus RS ones, which I think sold it to her.

Reminds me that when I swapped my wife's Escort XR3i to an Escort RS Turbo in the mid-1980s, she was initially very disappointed, until I pointed out (and she was finally convinced) that it would help if she used more than about 4,000rpm. Then she was convinced ....

Definitely correct. Most people who don't understand haven't had the opportunity to drive something.

My wife had an 850 T5 and loved the fact it was quick and fairly unassuming, she was ok at putting her foot down once rolling but never used the whole rev range and the one time she tried to "burn off" a Boxster it wasnt exactly an emphatic victory, more rampant wheelspin, back right off, into second, boog engine down, more wheelspin in which time matey in the Porsche was long gone.
