Dent Dilemma

A friend of mine has just got in contact saying that she and two other mates managed to open a car door into a parked BMW, and made a 1cm dent with about 0.5cm of paint removed. First up, don't go telling me they're stupid - I know this - but the woman who owns the BMW has told them that they need to cough up £1000 for a new panel. My first thought was that this sounded ridiculous, but if there's metallic paint to match up etc...?

I have no experience of this kind of stuff so all I can do it open it up to the PH massive and link them to this thread!

And ideas?

If the BMW owner takes it to the dealer I would expect that sort of figure.
Clearly it could be done for £150 at the local bodyshop but it's upto her.
Either cough up or insurance!

Hand bags at dawn, only way to solve this IMO, alternativly 1K seems a little on the steep side to myself, unfortunalty in situations like this when people seem to get greedy or unreasonable its best for a insurance company to deal with it.

A long time ago it was able to repay insurance companies thier outlays to retain NCB although i expect this practice no longer exists I am talking 20 odd years ago.

P.S come on three people didn't really make that small dent did they
