Fuel rail / pipe

I have the occasional smell of petrol, and so does the Griff 4.3. It’s due to condensing fuel where the pipe meets the rail and is held on by the jubilee clip. Now Austec tell me that this can be improved by adding an olive type rail – the same as the 500’s have. Any pre cat owners had the same problem and had the same upgrade fitted. Did it cure it ?

Um 'condensing fuel' at a joint, sounds like a tactful way of saying you have a fuel leak. They don't all do that sir, if the hose is the right size and in good condition with good quality hose clips.

One trick is to to fit two jubilee clips just to make sure. Yes an olive with an adapter is fine but unnecessary. The pipe has probably aged and needs replacing.

Fuel leak yes, but it tends to happen only when cold. I think it is so slight that when hot either the joint is totally closed or the fuel just vapourises. I've been very vigilant checking it - the pipe looks fine and I had it checked recently. I'm told that the pre cats generally do all do it due to the rail design. Indeed the fact that the 500's have a different rail with an olive suggests to me a design modification. Tightening the clip a little stops it - Ii don't know that the clip isn't just loosening over time.
