Gulf of Mexico

Having been to Clearwater for a day last year and loved it, I've decided to take the plunge and have booked a waterside Villa in Cape Coral for a few weeks next year. What I'd like to know is what else is worth visiting whilst we're there that's 'day trippable'? Everglades, Miami?

Sanibel Island and Captiva for sure. Very beautiful and lots of watersports.. Jet skiing especially good.
Marriot nearby has a great restaurant, had dinner there a few times.

Drive to Miami is quite long but easy as it is pretty much straight for most of the way. Maybe stay over 1 night there as there is plenty to do if you like nightlife.
