Jag S-Type Rs - anyone had one?

These look like total bargains now. 5k for a car putting out 400bhp.
Has anyone had one? I've checked the interweb and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of a buyer's guide or what to look out for on them. I know the e39 M5 can have the vanos issue than can cost a fortune to fix for example. Is there anything specifically on the S-Type that you need to look out for?

Yep, I had one in 2006 (a 52 plate, so pre-2nd facelift).
I (generally) liked it: very, very comfortable, really lovely interior (they are fully loaded and the seats are great), very quick (especially 30-100), fine handling and well balanced, comical traction in the wet, great noise from sports exhaust. Average mpg was about 21, though I did have 27 once on a long run.
The bad bits: brakes. Brembos are hideously expensive. Tyres, you will eat the rears. Supercharger whine quite intrusive under full load.
All in all, great cars.

A mate of mine had one and he loved it. I passengered in it once or twice and it really shifted. Good cabin too. I was very impressed.
He only had one issue - but it was fairly catastrophic; unbeknownst to him the cats were becoming blocked. All he knew was that it seemed to be misfiring. He spoke to the local Jag dealer a couple of times and concluded what might help would be an Italian tune up. Cue one trashed motor. IIRC Jag paid half to get it sorted but it was a major job.
He sold it a few months later essentially with a new short motor pus new cats. I'd have happily bought it.

Issues for the model - Sealed for life gearboxes, that don't last the life of the car are something of an issue. However change the oil at 80k and life is rosy. However, note that this is exceedingly expensive. Other than that, coolant pipes leaking in the engine block can be an issue.
Overall nothing has gone wrong in 30k miles in his car, but predicatably general running costs are fairly heavy. Tyres are expensive, brake parts (esp discs) are expensive, fuel (average 24 mpg) is quite expensive, road tax is expensive.... etc.
However they're fairly cheap to buy and depreciation is low. They're also fairly robust, with engines that don't blow up and go on forever. Whatever you do, don't buy a diesel S-type. The 2.7 twin turbo not only regularly blow turbos, but the DPF is a big issue which can write off engines.
Performance on the STR is nothing short of epic. He used to get depressed when stuck in queues of traffic on A/B-roads. So the considerable over-taking ability saves a lot of stress and cuts journey times considerably.
