What is claying?

It may be a dome question, but what is claying? What is involved, why do it and what products do you recommend? Currently use Autoglyn wash products and collinite Marque d'elegance carnauba wax. I would like to learn a little more about automobile detailing and reach the next level.

Here's a guide

If you've never clayed your car before then you'll be surprised about how much dirt it will take off even after a thorough wash. It gives a nice smooth surface to the paint before polishing and then waxing too.
