.......Anyone involved with it?

Seriously thinking about fitting it but am unsure if I should do it or if Ill get a better deal/grant by getting someone else to do it.

I should add that I have the skills to fit the panels, (I am qualified to fit solar hotwater panels and unvented cylinders), but would need my sparks to connect into the supply, (I'm a plumber). I also have access to supplying merchants so may well do some homework there too.

However I'm interested in talking to anyone involved in this industry.

If you want the feed in tariff you will have to have the install done by some one with the MCS accreditation for that technology.

If you just want to generate your own electricity then you could install it yourself.

If you have the cash and the 'right' roof then solar pv is a 'no brainer'....

Nobody I know does if for the free leccy, they all see it as an investment that makes a great return through FITS.

Who cares if the panels wear out after a few decades, the cash has been earned and banked :-)

In due course the rate will get cut so now is the time...

Look into the life span of inverters, as i have said in a previous post nobody seems to factor in the cost for a replacement in 10yrs time (£1500 + fitting). The German manufacturers who tend to make the more expensive and best ones have only just started putting a 10yr warranty on them and most are still 5yr. They do take a lot wear and won't last 20yrs.

Quite frankly you'd need no brain to think it was a no-brainer, but then most of the public seem easily conned.

The systems I looked into had an inverter per panel and guaranteed for 20 years... I guess you get what you pay for...

You can get modules (solar panels) which have integral inverters, rather than all feeding back to a central inverter.

SMA, the German manufacturer of Sunny boy inverters used to offer extended warranties (at a cost) and special rates for replacing failed inverters.

A reference to me above as a solar PV installer - Noddy - so I'm not shamelessly self plugging (much) but www.VerulamElectrics.co.uk if you want to get in touch.

One of our divisions installs quite a few of these, if you only have a small roofspace, rate of return on initial outlay will be forever. Feed in tariff gets cut next April as well if they're not fitted by then. We have to install 20 million pounds worth by then, so Noddy, if you're quiet, give us a shout. biggrin
