The normal running temperature should be 92 degrees. The fan(s) should cut in at about 98.

My 350 would get up rather quick. Never a problem though. Does it get any hotter?

The fans on the 350 would cut in whack the temp down big time. Never had a peoblem with that one.

From memory I think my handbook (for a 400SE and not for a 420 SEAC) says upper optimum temp is 80 deg. Mine runs cool most of the time - i.e. below 80 deg, but can get hot in traffic conditions, but generally behaves well.

It used to lose water and get very hot until we found that one head bolt had not been tightened up properly.

I think that your memory may be playing tricks with you. The thermostat is not supposed to open until 88 degrees; you may need a new one - your car is running very cold. 80 deg is very low for this weather.

The 88 deg thermostat is listed as a winter stat, 82 deg is an all year round stat, came to replace mine last week and it was an 82, never had any cooling probs at all. Below 80 seems on the cool side though.

I have an 88 degree 'stat in the 390SE; apart from a few spurts up towards 100 when thrashing (airlocks?), the gauge sits bang on 88 degrees.

Mine sits around 90, apart from (air lock) spurts up to 100 (as per wedg1e's). No otter switch in mine, I just turn the fan on manually if stuck in traffic or when coming off a long run (eg. motorway) - Streaky
