hi,
I'm a 17-year-old girl from the UK, soon to receive my provisional licence. Due to one of my parents' cars being an automatic, and another being a company car, I can't learn to drive in then, so I'm looking for my first car!
So, I'm looking to you guys to give me some suggestions.
I have looked at some cars Dad has showed me / used to own when I was little and I loved / found myself, so I might as well list them:
Hillman Superminx
Mini / Austin / Rover Mini
Hillman Minx
Triumph Herald
Austin Healey Frogeye
Nissan Juke
Landrover Defender Series III
Triumph Spitfire
MG Midget
Austin Healey Sprite
Suzuki Jimny
Sunbeam Alpine
I do have a budget - about £6000 - so some of those cars may be exceeding that!
Insurance also comes into account, and we don't really want to go about £2000 in insurance a year (I've been on gocompare!), so that brings down the list quite far!
Anyway, as you can see, I love classic cars, sporty looking cars, and 4x4s / jeep-looking cars, not because I need a 4x4, but because we have always owned one, so I like a higher seating position, and do feel safer in one, especially if bad weather ever comes to the UK (last winter was quite bad).
Obviously, that's kinda contradicting my liking of sporty cars, but hey!
In full, a sporty car or jeep / 4x4 that has good mpg, and is reliable!
Any suggestions welcome.
Oh yeah, also what did you guys have as your first car?
And last thing, so you reckon I would regret having only a two-seater car? Especially with having plenty of friends..
Thanks!
OzKo

woah, loads of replies! only posted 5 mins ago..
anyway, thanks for all the opinions.. liking the proposal there :P
I see the frogeye is quite popular! <3 them.. and the Juke is fab too, but quite expensive - I'm hoping prices will soon drop, but I'm not sure that'll happen! (this is for used Jukes, obviously..)
aaanyway, I dunno whether anyone read the little question at the bottom too, seeing it was a hell of a lot of text in that post, but:
would I regret having a two-seater car?
I have a lot of friends, and frankly, I wouldn't trust any of them to drive me around... they're all pretty crazy, so I'd probably have to give everyone else a lift.. but then Dad argues that that would end up with me having to pay for the petrol, which would suck. So I'm not sure there.
Thanks a lot!

OzKo....
....sounds like OXO.....
HA! Welcome to PH OzKo, you'll soon get used to the banter on here. Was in a similar boat this time last year, if you can get a nice mini insured for a decent price, go for it! Although I did fancy a Hillman Imp ....sounds like OXO.....
Somebody will suggest an MX5, and some sort of mapped diesel BMW, just warning you.
@theironduke:
I love Landys.. since I was really little I'd always vowed to have a Landy, but are they good for just running around in? Did you get a good MPG out of it?
That's one thing I'd hate - to have a car that everyone else has, such as the Ford Fiesta.. no offence to any owners, but EVERYONE has them! It'd be boring..
@Raize:
I'm so glad you said that! I was hoping someone would. I asked friends today, "would I regret..." etc, and they said yes. But then, I guess I'm the one driving the thing, and I've kinda gotta think about street cred too!
Thanks so much everybody, I really appreciate all the replies!
