After some inspiration.

Must be new or nearly new (ie mint and less than say 2 years old), prefer sports/chronos/larger watches rather than anything too dainty. To add context this is watch #3 so I am not a big collector and this is a meaningful £ to me, but the watch doesn't have to be practical. I have a SS daytona white face amd a Panerai 00111(black face, brown leather strap) so was thinking black face, black leather strap. My current thinking is an IWC classic pilot steel chrono.

I find this forum great for expanding my knowledge of more unusual brands so look forward to your suggestions

Sounds like you need a mesh strap not another leather one.

Google Breitling Superocean Heritage 46.

Plenty of dial/bezel/strap combinations

The black chrono on mesh could fit the bill.

I have the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage (plain blue dial rather than the more recent one with other sub dials) and it is by far the nicest watch I have seen - especially with the mesh strap!) Definitely worth a punt. I purchased mine for under £1500 over two years ago as my son was working in Ernest Jones and got a great discount. To buy new is now well over the £2500 mark but shop around and you will find it much cheaper I am sure.

See here - http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Breitling/SuperOcean-...

How gorgeous is that?!!!

Black face, black strap (see the liberty I've taken there), chrono (may have taken some liberty there too)...

Chopard Mille

44mm Chopard but less chrono? PH perfect strap.

Omega DV Byzantium- don't see many of these... lovely piece.

Cartier Pasha. Lack of chrono I appreciate, but just look at it! Timeless style, and different.

Montblanc Time Walker- this one seems a touch pricey but you get the general gist:

Bell & Ross BR range is not my cup of tea, but they are a big & different.

They are so nice, I may have just convinced myself to buy another, having flipped one a few years ago... Subtle, and classy. Leather strap did not come with deployment (it may have done on some of them, but not mine), so don't be surprised if you find one with a non-original. I have no idea how the rubber wears either tbh- maybe someone else knows?

Going for one of these in the end, pilot was nice but smaller than I thought, this one was so different from my other 2 and had a great presence on the wrist, if such a thing exists.

Damn !!!
Just when I think I know what watch I want next, someone comes along and shows off something else I like. Is there no end to this madness

So.....what is it, how much are they ? Please tell me they are £10K or something so ridiculous that its out of my league.

IWC Aquatimer Chrono. RRP £4,250. I guess around £3,000 pre-owned.

Discounts can be had.

By the way Watches of Switzerland mentioned a 10% rise on IWC, Panerai and others over the weekend although there may be a grace period of a week or so for current stock

What's the deal with Sinn? I like them but they never quite hit the spot for me, nothing unique about the styling that makes me think " oh it's a Sinn" if that makes sense.

But they seem to have quite a following on here, are they very high quality or is the appeal that only oficianados know what they are? I rarely see them for sale in shops but they are obviously respected.

I've got to say, I really like that IWC you've chosen, more so every time I look at it.

I've never been a flipper of watches, but spending time on this forum is getting me thinking I might start whistle

Very high-quality German-engineered tool watches. They're not particularly expensive, but the quality/£ is excellent if you need a pilot/dive watch. A lot of the cases are tegimented steel; the 'U' series dive watches are made of submarine hull steel also. Having tried a few on, they are fantastically well-made for the price. Relatively low-volume production, they're rare, and in the UK have only two dealers as far as I am aware, Chronomaster and Jura.

I imagine them being precisely manufactured in a tiny high-tech Bavarian factory overseen by a bloke who looks like a Bond villain. Hang on, perhaps I'm thinking of Herr Damasko....

I actually really liked it in blue too but thought black would be a bit more practical, unfortunately they seem to have replaced the orange with white now
