I have a pre facelift E39 M5 with original xenon headlights and a set of facelift halogens.
Is there anyway I can fit the facelift lights and utilize the xenon parts from the old headlights? Or am I stuck with halogen when I fit the new lights?
Also what is involved with the wiring, I realise that modifying the wiring for the highbeam, sidelights (angel eye) and indicator should be straight forward enough as they are conventional lights but what about the old xenon dip beam supply?
I have searched on M5 board but it all seems to be people upgrading fron halogens to xenons.

The facelift Halogen can be used but you have to get a rebased bulb as the D2s will not fit the Halogen opening. Also, the pre facelift Xenon ballast fits directly to the back of the bulb, this is not possible with the facelift Halogen lights as the ballast is too heavy to mount. The easiest way to do it is to get an HID kit, the BMW plug to your existing ballast will go straight into the kit ballast.Your sidelight plug and levelling plugs are the same and will work as intended, high beam plug also.

Why bother mate?

Leave it in its original condition, no-one notices and it makes no difference to performance.......money better spent elsewhere.

I know what you are saying but I have the lights now and I do think it makes the nose a bit fresher looking.
Ebay is deadly when you are stuck working offshore with nothing to do!
I have also bought new front discs and pads.
So I have a few jobs to do when I get home. biggrin
I had to stop myself buying braided hoses and new bushes! Maybe later.

Whats the difference between the 35w and the 55w kits? Obviously the 55w is brighter but will it be too bright or blue?

35w is legal and oem. try and get 4300k which is brightest. The higher you go in 'k' the bluer/less bright they will be. 8000k k is more purpleish and often seen on Saxo's accompanied by a baseball hatter with jeans around his knees.
