Hi Guys - just rec'd my new Alli Radiator from Radtec - Sooo much lighter/ thinner that the copper version, and fitted a treat.

I had intended to use the std fans for my LS7, and with the Alli rad I guessed that they would be efficient enough?

Don't want to waste money (done enough of that already), so I thought I would check with all you out there for your opinions.

Should I stick or go with Pacet fans?

cheers

Waiting for someone to comment that the factory rad forms part of the crash structure so shouldn't be changed to aluminium.

I fitted Pacet fans for twice the airflow to my std rad. One thing I have noticed is that whilst driving in hot weather in south of France and despite having no thermostat due to electric pump the water temp would not go below 85 even at high speed on motorways with the fans running as well. If I could I would be buying a rad with more cooling ability. This would need to be more efficient as there is no space for bigger.

the radtec rads are excellent and Ive had a few over the years..

they dropped then temp by 10 degrees on my old v8..they are quality at an affordable price...

cant imagine rad is part of a crash structure..

Why do you want the temp lower?

I would be with you on that one Steve.

85 seems fine to me. 95 sitting in traffic on a hot day.

Cooling the oil would be the way forward if you needed more cooling (which I don't think you do).

Steve I don't want it cooler (although 75 is best for power apparently) I was experimenting to see what cooling was available. Because it would not go below 85 with fans on and no thermostat at a cruise of 90mph I am concerned about what would happen on a hot track day.
Storer my oil temp never seems to go above 70 even with an oil thermostat.

I fitted my Radtec back in March. I was since finding that I was never getting out of warm up on slowish trips to work and find that it has made a great difference to the coolant temperature in all uses.

Now I am just adding a 180DegF thermostat to replace my 160DegF one to my Summit Racing order, to bring the engine temperature up a bit. Agree with Steve; I don't want to run low temps, but having an efficient rad helps keep things in check when really needed. I don't see any reason to replace my standard fan setup either from what I have seen so far this year.

Why would you have the fans running if you are cruising at 90mph?

I've just ordered a pair of Pacet CF1111P fans for my build. These are the slimline 11" jobbies, so will not foul the vent in anyway. Will be a good 12mths before I can comment on their efficience tho' frown

mmm not in my experiance...

coolant
IMO 85-93 degree is optimum temp for power, some say 85, some say 93(180-200f)

75 degrees is too cool...way too cool for driving hard!!

oil
on the dyno, my race engines produced max horsepower at 91 degrees oil temp... bet if you are running so cool you oil is too cool too.. If so you will be wearing out your engine very quickly...

Macgtech as I explained I was trying to see what the max cooling effect I could get was. As I expected turning the fans on at that speed made very little difference. My worry is that if my cooling system cannot get below 85 when my foot is just brushing the gas pedal. What will happen under track conditions?

V8 how would you suggest I get my oil to run hotter? Even with water temp at 95 oil never gets hotter even without an oil cooler.

Jumps in out of turn....
Fit an oil to water cooler. In your case it will bring your oil temperature up to the water temp rather than cooling it.

Yes Steve thought about that. You could say that it would also help overall cooling capacity. Which seems to be an issue on my car. However as I think you are aware something just does not smell right with my oil temp I just cannot see how the temp is so low and have checked and double checked sensor and calibration etc.
Following throttle problem thread hope you get it sorted

hi run an oil stat... it bypasses the oil cooler until a certain temp is reached then allows oil through the cooler

Ive just fitted a Mocal unit

Look further up this thread my friend I already have an Mocal oil stat. It makes no difference at all. I am now running with no oil cooler either. Still no difference.
