roughly what percentage of your total biking be considered British?

As an example I have a few British components on my bike (Hope headset, skewers and stem, Charge Spoon Saddle and Ragley handlebar grips)

I wear Endura socks and shorts and Berghaus Tech Tees with a Berghaus Jacket when it is raining/winter

Not as much as I would like but being patriotic is an expensive business. i will hopefully be on an Orange 5 come the nest season so that should bump the percentage up a bit. I'd say it is currently about 20% as a rough estimate though!

Frame: Huntington Beach, California.
Forks/seatpost: North Carolina.
Wheels/hubs: Marin County, California.
Brakes: Italy.
Handlebar/stem: Vancouver, British Columbia.
Drivetrain: Japan.

Ooh! Ooh!

Pedals: British (company, probably made in Taiwan).

So about 1.25% by cost.

Think that's it. Maybe 45%?

My boardman frame has a big British flag on it with "designed in Britain" in tiny print underneath. There's a sticker saying "made in Taiwan" on the bottom of the frame. I'm not sure how British that is. hehe

Who are the guys making frames in the UK now? Pashley, Brompton & Orange . . . and a few small specialist builders.

Cotic are British, there must be others. I want a Soda or even 'just' a Soul but I'm not riding enough at the moment to justify it.

Hope hubs are about all at the moment. Intending to replace Shimano brakes and Thomson seatpost with Hope stuff when they go pop. Partly because they're British, partly because Hope have absolutely brilliant customer service.

The only other British stuff I've had was made by Pace, and had numerous problems (design & manufacturing/QC).

My Hope Vision 4 is royally screwed - discharges the battery in a day of being switched off - but the service has been excellent. I've had rear hub bearings collapse due to water ingress, and stuck brake pistons due to corrosion (both fair wear & tear IMO), and both times they've reconditioned them for very little money. Just the fact that internal parts are available is a refreshing change. Try that with Shimano and see where it gets you.

Also the only company I've ever had an email conversation about gravy with.

I'm about to order one of the most British bikes currently available. The Brompton folder!
I'll post pics on the '' show your bikes thread'' when it arrives.
I expect praise & ridicule in equal measure!

only the top end orange stuff is still made in halifax. the ht frames are from the far east. Sram, shimano and cmpag are far eastern and romanian built respectively only campag record and super record is made in italy. not that it makes a difference, it just makes me smile when i see people getting self righteous on a bianchi thinking its all made in italy and hand welded by milanese virgins in a factory outside monza... cyclists are so funny, so many want a piece of heritage and prestige so pay through the nose for a fancy name ending in "chi" or "ello"

nothing on my bike is from the UK and neither is any of my clothing, most outdoor clothing comes from romania or the far east. i am however, close top selecting a new frame which will be british....and titanium smile

Forks - Marzocchi 888 RC3 WC they're '08's so the fancy stuff was designed and made in Italy, but it was assembled togeather with the bulkier parts in Thaiwan.

Cove Shocker Frame - Designed, built and painted (I don't know why, but Cove really like to tell people they paint them there too for some reason) in Canada! (but the Maxle rear and Fox shock are from the US)

Charge sadle, UK!

Raceface Bars/steam/seat post, Canada, made in Thaiwan.

Hope V2's made in the UK.

Hope Hubs UK! YAY, DT Swiss spokes - erm swiss, maybe, rims Mavic, erm French?

Shimano chainset and pedals, Japan.

SRAM Shifter and derailer - US

Grips Charge UK!

I think it's (or was) only the cheapest HT frames are made abroad, they still make the higher end stuff here.

My Cannondale - not a single UK manufactured part on it.

My Orange P7 frame and my Pace forks were both made in Yorkshire. That's about it.

Not if it's an Enigma, only their steel frames are welded in the UK. I can't think of any manufacturer that actually welds their ti frames in the UK now, everything is done in the far east (or Russia for Burls).
