I run a BMW e21 as a track day car, and also enter a few sprint & hillclimb events, and till recently used Toyo888's which I've always found to be ideal for my needs. I have just replaced them with Silverstone RR's and wondered if anyone has used them? I also wondered if anyone could advise what initial tyre pressures I should go with? The car weighs around 1000kg with driver & fuel.

I'm interested to see how you get on with these. I guess by the look of them that they're not road legal?

Also how much did you get them for, if you don't mind me asking?

The Mk1 MR2 Racing guys have run these for a couple of years, in 14" size
The compound they were using was around 1 sec a lap quicker than R888 GG's

The wear rates were much higher as you can expect, though I'm not hard on tyres, some guys were burning through them very quickly

Whereas you can feel 888's going off, the Silverstones dropped off very quick.

The Silverstones are supposed to have a stiffer wall, when we first changed from R888 to FTZ-RR I ran the same pressures.

My track wheels are the same size, how much and where from? I can only find them at tweaks.

I got them here.

http://www.serviceandsport.com/silverstone/

Around £100 each delivered for 195/50x15

I had heard they were good but a second a lap better than 888's?? Impressive stuff.

I run them on my Mazda mx5 race car as a track day tyre. (Federal 595's Race tyre)

They are VERY good and wear rate is good, I run 26psi

Well I have to say I am very happy with these after Brands on Monday. I did wonder if maybe it would be too hot as it must have been one of the warmest days of the year.

Anyway, started with cold pressures of 26psi and did a couple of slow laps to get rid of the shiny surface and any remaining release agent. After that, I gradually increased my speed. I knew I was able to carry more speed onto the start/finish straight as I was into 4th gear sooner and pulling an extra 10mph before braking for Paddock Hill bend. I also carried way more speed through Druids.

Being as my car is quite light at 1000kg's these tyres seemed to work really well. I was happy enough with price too, considering they were a step up from 888's, cheaper and more readily available. I'll definately be using them in future.

I'm guessing they're not strictly road legal though?

Supposedly they're E-marked does that make them road legal?

They are E marked, yes.

I've used them on road to and from events.

It doesn't say ''motorsport use only'' anywhere either.
