Munich Oktoberfest.
Discussion
I have been but when we went we stayed in a hostel rather than hotel as if you dont book early enough the hotels get very very expensive.
The hostel we stayed in has now closed it seems as we have been looking to go again. It really is a great thing to see though although we were a little shocked at just how non tourist orientated it actually is (kind of nice).
All in all if you are just looking for somewhere to get you head down while there for a day or 2 I would be checking on Hostelworld & Hostelbookers for cheap places with private rooms.

I went last year as part of our banger rally.
We ended up staying in a hotel more towards the outskirts of Munich. 10 min walk to the tube and then a 15 min tube journey direct to where the Oktoberfest was taking place.
Brilliant fun. The Germans know how to drink and have a good time. Very very welcoming.
Have you reserved a table inside one of the tents?

No. Just two of us so we'll stagger around.
Yeah we found that to book a table you need a party of 10 people or so. But some friendly locals invited us onto a table in one of the tents. Saying that, I went 20 years ago (when there was none of that) and it was fecking brilliant.
Also, I think most areas in Germany have there own local beer festivals at various points throughout summer which will be less commercial and more real. Might be worth checking if there is anything nearby when you are out there.
Always very busy and difficult to gets seats but you'll be more lucky as theres just two of you.
Don't know how long you'll be going for (day/s) but get there lunchtime and you'll get seated, it'll still be very busy even at midday !!
In the past when there has been a group (about 6/7) we've got a table at lunchtime and then stayed there as we wouldn't find somewhere else later.
When the locals have had a few they are very welcoming so a few suggestive locals should see you squeeze on the end of someones table.
You've got to go as its an amazing place and the atmosphere is just brilliant inside the tents.
Tried to go early in the week if you can as it will just be very busy as opposed to being bloody busy at the weekend !!
Try the pork knuckles and/or roast chicken - lovely
Remember the beer doesn't give you hangovers like the crap we drink here so drink lots of it !!
