Getting a sharp pain from just under my left chest muscle (top of rib cage) which runs horizontal around my side and in to my back when I do certain things such as breathing in (when breathing in for a long time it also hurts on the initial exhale and the longer I breathe in the stronger/sharper the pain gets), opening doors, pulling handbrake on, changing gear, stearing with left hand.

Thinking it could be a pulled muscle but tempted to go to the physio although at £40 just for a consultation it seems a bit excessive. Unable to do any sport at the moment because of it

Yep, that helps a lot

Well I would hope it is either a pulled muscle or stress fracture of a rib as apposed to cancer

Physios. Waste of money. I've used them. Ibuprofen and rest is what you need. People go to a physio, physio tells them to take some ibuprofen and rest the area that is in pain. Guess what? Pain goes away, people think the physio cured them with his miraculous strengthening exercises. Load of nonsense is what it is.

Of course it is! That's why football and athletic clubs etc waste thousands of pounds a year on physios, because they're a load of nonsense!

Probably a slightly pulled intercostal.

No big worries, and not a lot you can do about keeping your ribs still:Anti inflammatorys and rest.If very painful Doctor then xray.
