After just one week of ownership I love the car but am really on the fence about the sports exhaust.

Not sure what I have but it doesn't have the silencers and the cans have don't have any silencing either. Sounds absolutely awesome and pops and bangs on overrun at every opportunity.

Maybe it's old age, but not sure it's for me and want to try something more sedate if that's not a total contradiction in a Tuscan.

Anyone know of a quite set in good condition I could try on a 2004 4.0?

Not sure what you mean by "doesn't have the silencers". Do you have cats or not? If not you could put the cats back in, I did and much prefer the sound.

It sounds like you have sleeved cans, you could try some standard unsleeved ones which would reduce the noise and pops and bangs.

Was told that the cats are in place but that there is usually a silencing box near the back before the Cans
This is what I have:

Just looks like a bit of rusty scaffold pole to me biggrin

Yep, you're missing the silencers. I think they are standard cans and if so it sounds (and looks) like they've been sleeved by having a piece of s/s piping shoved into them. If you could remove that it should make some difference as it will allow the baffles to be utilised in each can.

Steve had that conversion on my Tuscan, with the standard cans it was IMO a much better sound and didnt get on your nerves, as has been said see if you can remove the sleeves that have been installed on the cans, plenty of WD40 or penetrating oil might help to get them out but they will be a good fit.

If removing the sleeves doesn't give the sound you want, you could always have the back boxes/ silencers made and retro fitted. I had some replacements made by a longlife exhaust centre in Basingstoke £55 each plus vat and fitting.

No, silencers just before the end cans.

One of my cans broke off a while back, but you cacn see from my photos that there is supposed to be a silencer there...

I have installed a band to stop it happening again. This failure is one reason for removing the back boxes which, as you can see, are weak at the welds...

They definitely make a difference. I am decatted and sleeved, not sure i would want much louder TBH!!!

I'll try desleving the can first and see if that makes a difference.
just took a mate out for a spin and dropped him off at 11:30. Probably woke up the entire street, my mate had to literally dive for cover before his neighbors realized who I was dropping off.
