Going to London to get a car

Evening everyone

I'm going to London tomorrow, hopefully to buy a car and drive it back, I'll be going down on the train then the tube then another short train ride.

I've not seen the car in person, but the seller is a member on here and another forum, so I trust the car is good.

Never been on a train solo before and have to go solo because I didn't give my best mate time to book off work! Never been to London before either

I've never done this before, so to put my mind at rest please share stories of similar outings, how smooth it went etc

Haha come off it guys, little danny is scared of big bad London.

I grew up in Barnsley, South Yorkshire ffs, I only know 3 people that aren't white and my dad used to read the Daily Mail..

Top adventure, I did something similar, but ended up halfway across europe ... anyway where are you going from/to ?

Fact that he/she is on this and another forum is good, but, and big but don't be afraid to walk if it's not as described !

I live about 40 miles away from London, but have the misfortune to have to go there 3 or 4 times a week. Anything past 4pm the trains and tubes will look like a 3rd world country, be packed, so try and avoid peak times. Likewise on a Friday almost all routes out of town will be rammed, until at least 7 pm, so suggest if you're in the middle of this .. go for something to eat, start your journey later.

Also put your phone/wallet/cash well out of the way, trouser pocket etc !

Aside from that, the streets are paved with gold you know ! ... enjoy

thanks bud, I'm going from Wakefield so only about 220 miles - not quite the same distance as you !

Went to Cheltenham to pick up my ZT, which involved going through London on the tube.

Going on a busy tube train with £3k secreted on my person was every bit as stressful as it sounds... especially as thats virtually a years wages...!

Take a book, otherwise you might have to make eye contact with a stranger. It always starts when you make eye contact.

Barnsley ! .. got a good mate in Darton, anyway the M1 is completely f***cked near me Jct 12 of M1, so get in early or late but don't do it between 5 and probably 8 pm. You'll probably come into St Pancras, enjoy it is a restoration masterpiece ...rest of London is Sh*t .. and yes talk to people on the tube, it's tourist central at the moment .. so they will assume you are a local !

I've sold two cars in the last couple of years to chaps who flew down from Scotland (one Aberdeen, one Edinburgh) and both went away with the car, very happy and no surprises.

If you've done your homework on the car, you've got nothing to worry about.

I had a mate who commuted car/train from Huddersfield to London daily for about a year, it was at night .. but even so !

i once bought an e28 bmw 528i on ebay whilst drunk. turned out the seller was a pher who lived in sussex. i lived in hull at the time. cue a train journey not really knowing if i was buying a lemon or not.

i was picked up at the station in a bmw m3 and taken to the chaps house to sort the paperwork. on his drive were a porsche 924 racecar, a 911 and a ferrari 355. this gave much confidence and the bmw was in pretty good nick for its age and price.

stopped in london for a night out on the way back then drove home up the a1, taking a detour through some of my fave lincolnshire b-roads and hitting an indicated 135mph on the home run across the m62. loved that car.

Nothing wrong with London, if all else fails just act like a tourist, we get enough of them to just think "fk off" rather than anything else.

Good luck with the car though mate, I've had st luck with mine so I'm hoping that doesn't transfer across PH.

NIce (Expensive) part of town, most "Hardcore Londoners" will consider that as far out of London as Wakefield, (which they will never of heard of)

Just expect a crap/slow journey home, but in a new car more time to play with gadgets. Did you say what you are picking up ?
