I am doing the South Downs 100mile ride tomorrow. I am going in a team of 2 so tool kit is split between us both, does this sound ok?
Leatherman tool (9/10 this is more useful than a bike specific tool
Bike tool (for the other 1/10!)
tyre levers
Chain tool
3x co2 gas canisters (each)
5 SRAM quick links
drop out
Tyre patches
Tube Patches
Superglue
Zip ties
'tubes (2 each) we both run tubeless
Pump
Duct tape
Spare tubeless valve
Latex solution
park patches
Basic medical kit including ibuprofen plasters and dressings etc...
Chammy "bum" cream
Enough calories to stuff me for a week - this I am unsure of, is there places we can buy food on the route?
change of socks and shorts

You might need extra set of clothes rather than just shorts & socks and a water-proof jacket, the current weather today down here looks like it could deluge any second. And it would be nice to have some dry stuff after a downpour or the inevitable body weight in sweat you'll be shedding, do you have a good set of wipes & gloves in your first aid kit? Pack of baby wipes and some disposable gloves are always good idea if not.

Get some "Biofreeze" gel from Boots - I swear by this stuff for any muscle ache I get when I'm racing and have used it liberally before a race on my ITBand as a precautionary to good effect.
If you twinge a calf muscle or similar on the way round whack some of this on and it'll do the job FAST... just don't forget to wash your hands then try and take a contact lense out half hour later - it smarts A LOT!!![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

I'd dump the chammy creme. Use it before you go, don't think there's much sense re-applying it half way around. I did 70 miles this time last year including some of the south downs. There are some hills, do you need to take your own water, or will you be topped up as you go? I'd suggest travelling as light as you can
